Favourite Books for Summer

Here are some of the Honey's Willow team's favourite books for summer.

The Summer Book by Tove Jansson - Hannah's pick

This is such a relaxing and comforting read. Sophia and her grandmother have such wonderful adventures - needing only the nature around them on their little island in Finland. Both characters made me cry with laughter at points too.

The Power by Naomi Alderman - Beth's pick

This dystopian book challenges your mind about gender, and is being adapted for the screen. It was only afterwards that I realised the author is now a lecturer at Bath Spa University.

The Greengage Summer by Rumer Godden - Honey's pick

This coming of age story takes place over a long summer in the Champagne region of France.  A thirteen year old girl tries to make sense of the adult world. Her surroundings are so beautifully observed you can almost smell the ripe greengages.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid - Carolina's pick

A very easy and gripping read about a fictional Old Hollywood actress that - surprise - has had seven husbands and the story behind all of them and her life. One of those books you can't seem to put down.

Taste: My life through food by Stanley Tucci - Robyn's pick

A great mix of his life with some classic Italian recipes throughout, just some really lovely and heart warming stories.

Foreign Bodies by Amanda Craig - Rhiannon's pick

A headstrong young woman flees England, where her life has been mapped out for her and heads for Tuscany, where she gets to know the locals - many of whom have skeletons rattling around in their closets.  She also gets to know herself a lot better and takes charge of her own future.

The Lido by Libby Page - Tamzin's pick

Easy, uplifting summer reading about the significance of a community's lido. Makes us look forward to the reopening of Bath's lido.
